-oid Object Identifiers are strings of numbers organized in a hierarchical fashion. Every object in a MIB has a unique OID. The Internet OID is 1.3.6.1. The dot notation is an IETF invention, but the ITU preferred a notation using spaces and braces, with optional text labels, so that 1.3.6.1 would look like any one of the following: {iso(1) org(3) dod(6) iana(1)} {1 3 6 1}
