| Weil's basal l. |
a clear, relatively cell-free layer, located just inside the odontoblastic layer and overlying the cell-rich zone of the dental pulp, which is visible during the inactive phase of dentinogenesis. It is made up of delicate fibrils embedded in the ground substance; in dentinogenesis the fibrils are incorporated into the matrix. Called also subodontoblastic l. and Weil's basal zone.
