| 설명 | 셋째 뇌실의 바깥벽과 상부를 이루는 간외의 밑 부분. 시각 교차, 유두체, 회색 융기, 깔때기 및 하수체 후엽 등으로 구성되어 자율 신경계의 고차 중추 및 체온, 수면, 생식, 물질 대사 등의 중추 역할을 한다. 주로 회색질로 이루어졌으며, 뇌하수체와 밀접하게 관련되어 있다. 척추동물에서는 생체의 내환경을 조절하는데 있어 가장 중요한 역할을 한다. 시상하부는 동물에 있어서 기본적인 신체기능을 유지하는 자율신경 및 체성신경의 조절에 관여한다. 이 부분은 아래에 달려있는 뇌하수체 기능을 직접 조절함으로써 내분비계를 총괄하고 있으며 교감신경계와 부교감신경계의 활동을 조절하고 이들 사이의 균형을 유지함으로써 변화하는 외환경에 적응하기 위하여 체내에서 발생하는 심한 교란상태에도 불구하고, 내환경을 일정한 좁은 범위내에서 유지할 수 있도록 한다. 항상성의 존재와 그의 효율성은 조건이 다른 환경에서 기능을 수행하는데 선결조건이다. 이런 조절 기능은 적절한 내장기관들의 기능을 유지하고, 섭식, 물마심, 성행동, 모성본능 및 적대감의 행동양상에 관여한다. |
