| vimentin f.’s |
intermediate filaments composed of vimentin and occurring in a variety of cells derived from embryonic mesenchyme; they act as cytoskeletal support structures, play a role in mitosis, and are clustered particularly around the nucleus, probably helping to control its location. In cells containing more than one type of intermediate filament, vimentin filaments are always present.
